ABOUT THE LOCAL AREA
Battery Park City
Battery Park City is a premier 92-acre neighborhood in downtown Manhattan consisting of mixed-use residential and high end commercial. The Battery Park City is considered to be primarily located on the West Side of Manhattan bound by the Hudson River and the Financial District to the North.
Battery Park City is defined by nature and of course it’s unfailing and welcomed neighbor, Lady Liberty. When Battery Park City was built in the 1980s urban planners focused on the environment which can be seen through what some consider to be a green ribbon which stretches over 1.2 miles; linking together an abundance of kid- and pet-friendly parks which embrace the Hudson River and an atmosphere of tranquility.
At the northern tip of Battery Park City, you will find high-rise condominiums like the Riverhouse and other residential buildings including an upscale hotel, the Stuyvesant National High School which specializes in mathematics and science, and of course a mall. Also, The World Financial Center, a multifaceted area of high-rise structures hosts some of the world’s largest corporations, including a mall on the ground floor and second floor. The ‘Winter Garden,’ a steel-and-glass atrium is the center point of the World Financial Center while a large yacht harbor known as North Cove Marina lies just outside on the Hudson River.
Going further south of the World Financial Center is where a majority of Battery Park City’s residential properties are located: The Visionaire, Millenium Tower Residences and of course the Ritz Carlton hotel and residences. The area is complete with modern facilities and services found on other residential neighborhoods including supermarkets, restaurants, bars, and movie theaters. Wagner Park on the southern tip of Battery Park City offers a charming respite from the overwhelming “buzz” of New York City life where one can stroll through gardens of brightly colored flowers.
The median age of Battery Park City is 33 with an estimated population of approximately 1,300 males and 900 females in a community where at least 40% of these are college graduates. On average, annual household income is generally around 100,000 and with over 300 individual family households it has become a true family oriented neighborhood.
